The first day of the ESWC finals could not come to an end without an upset. VeryGames, EMS One champion, had to settle for second place in the group following a 13-16 defeat to Copenhagen Wolves.

It was considered to be the match of the day and it disappointed no one: VeryGames were defeated on home soil just days after defending their RaidCall EMS One trophy against Ninjas in Pyjamas in Germany.

Starting off on the Terrorist side, VeryGames had a bright start, with Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom winning a one-on-two situation in the pistol round, but CPH Wolves were outstanding in gun rounds, losing just one of these during the entire first half as they were up 11-4 before switching sides.

The French giants looked a lot more lively after the restart and looked dominant during the earlier stages of the second half, but then CPH Wolves reacted and little by little got the five rounds they needed as they ran out 16-13 winners.

Since VeryGames finished second in Group B, they will have to tackle one of the three other group winners, meaning that there is a 1/3 chance that they could wind up meeting Ninjas in Pyjamas in the quarter-finals.
